The deeper and wider the area the better.
The players forming the square are to raise their hands so that their fingers touch the fingers of the player next to them. Once this is done the players should turn 90 degrees so that they just touch the fingers of the other players they meet. The cat should stand at one corner of the area and the mouse at the opposite corner.
On the word go the cat is to chase the mouse. The cat and mouse may use the lanes provided by the other players.
At the call of change from the game leader the players making up the square are to turn 90 degrees. If a cat or mouse are caught in the square they must change direction with the players in the square. The aim of the game is for the cat to catch the mouse. Once this has been achieved the roles are reversed and the game begins again. Once both players have played the roles of cat and mouse 2 other players are chosen and the game begins again.
There is no outright winner in this game it is purely for fun.
Because the players making up the square need to have their arms in the air for long lengths of time they should be given frequent rests.
